Pet owners nowadays are highly likely to have or at least hold a desire to own more than just the one household pet. Whether it be cats and dogs or even some more unusual breeds of animals, it is extremely important for you to ensue that all pets are cared for adequately and with the upmost of due care that the animals deserve.

The most common tendency is for a family to become over indulged in the new bundle of joy and somewhat neglect the pet that has been in the house previously. Animals will also have emotions and will not take kindly to a sudden attitude change so it is vitally important for all members f the family to continue to lavish attentions and snuggles on the “older” pets.

Another important factor is for you to ease your two pets into living together slowly. Animals take time to adjust to new surroundings including people and other pets. It would be no use to force pets together and expect them to bond. They should be introduced in a controlled environment where there are plenty of distractions. The new pet needs to gain confidence in his new home and this will take a little time. It is also a good idea to feed your two pets in different locations and at different times at first.

Rats – rats actually make great pets. They are clean and like to cuddle. They are also very smart and rarely bite.

Guinea Pigs – these animals are timid but very social. They don’t often bite and are easy to tame. They do like to live in pairs and require a bit of space to play.

Gerbils – These little guys are lots of fun. They like to live in pairs and are very social, friendly and curious animals and they rarely bite. You do need to be careful with their tails.

Leopard Geckos – If your child is less interested in a cuddly, furry friend and more into cool reptiles this is a great choice. These geckos are fairly easy to tame and live happily in a small habitat.

Whatever choice you make be sure to learn how to properly care for your new pet and supervise children as they play and care for their new friends.

Jealousy is a monster that devours our humanity. It makes us greedy, unhappy and selfish and what is more surprising is that jealousy can also be seen in our furry best friends. It is not only exclusive to humans but the feeling of being jealous is also evident in animals and to our pets as well. When a new pet is introduced to a household pet, jealousy arises and some pets may get aggressive in defending their territory and attention to you.

Pets only care of their feelings and yours so they do not want to be immediately connected or bonded to the new pet. They might perceive them as a threat or an outsider. In some cases, like dogs, they might felt unwanted and disposed so they start making attention by making a mess or worst, they may become hostile and may became irritated to your sudden lack of attention to them and may became harmful.

Here are some helpful tips in preventing jealousy among pets:

Carefully introduce them – Bringing a new pet to the household is not that simple. A dog will not welcome a new dog to its territory that easy so introducing them with one another requires precautions and in some cases needs the assistance of an expert like a vet or even a dog whisperer.

Feed them separately – Pets are overprotective when it comes to their food so the new pets must be fed separately for they are still strangers to other pets. Dogs can be extremely aggressive with their foods and they will attack the new pet if feed near with each other. In some cases, the pets health are affected due to stress and malnutrition.

Always provide enough attention to your first pets – To prevent jealousy among pets, make sure to continue the attention you give to your current pets and it would be much better to spend more time to make them feel they are not left out and neglected.

Pet jealousy must be taken a lot of consideration to prevent pets from isolating themselves which may lead to poor health and unease with the environment and also to prevent aggression which may lead to serious fights.

If humans can overheat in summer and even springtime then our pets can overheat too. A responsible pet owner must always take precautions on the weather changes, during spring we give our pets fancy sweaters to protect them and we take the sweaters out after winter. But its not always the winter weather that we must take precautions, even springtime can cause overheat to our pets too.

Overheating usually happens when the sun is too high that the outdoors is so hot and may be unbearable to our pets. Even the indoors such as cars and our houses can be too hot for out pets.

The signs that our pets especially dogs and cats are suffering from heatstroke or overheat are as follows:

* panting too much

* sluggish

* loss of appetite

* disoriented

* and vomitting

If you see all these symptoms especially too much panting because pets pants to breath in and out cool air, so that they can breath in moisture and vapor to cool their bodies, so if panting is evident, then give them cold water to drink or put some ice cubes in a bowl for them to lick. It is also advisable to call the veterinarian for additional remedies. Another great idea is to spray your dog some cool water or give them a bath to cool their bodies.

If the room is too hot, you can turn on the air conditioner or the electric fan and let it face in your pets especially dogs. Dogs love facing the air from the electric fan. If your pets are inside the car, don’t leave them too long or at least park your cars in a cooler place like under the shade of a tree.

When bring your dogs to the park, it is a good idea to bring a bottle of water and a small bowl so in times that the temperature it high, you can give your pet a wisk of water in the face and have some to drink.

Heatstroke due to overheat are common in pets and be a responsible owner. Know the signs and know what to do. A sluggish dog or cat may not just be sleepy or tired. They might be suffering from heatstroke and heatstrokes can lead to cardiac arrest in cats and dogs. So always be cautious with weather changes and know what to do.

Most parents today deprive their kids from having pets due to fear of asthma attacks they may get from pets. Most believe that furs from pets causes asthma attacks but there is a study that actually shows that fur are not allergens rather its the dander of the pets that causes asthma attacks.

Childhood asthma is caused by inhalant of allergen sensitization. Allergic reactions are caused by proteins in the food or reaction to different chemicals. Proteins in the dander, urine or saliva of pets such as dogs, cats, birds and even fishes causes allergic reactions and can trigger asthma attacks to anyone who exposed to pets.

There are actions that can be made to prevent asthma attacks from pets. Avoiding encounter with pets is not the solution, there are pet owners who are allergic to animal danders who are able to have pets, all they do is follow some safety measures.

Here are some actions to take to prevent asthma attacks from pets:

1. If you are able to prove that pets causes asthma triggers to you, consider the idea of having them a different home for example a dog house outside your home.

2. Keep your pets away from living room, couches, beds and places where you most likely to stay longer or lie down. The danders that they release are the allergens that causes asthma attacks so making sure that they stay away from furnitures with fabric and carpets is a good idea.

3. Vacuum your house as often as possible. Probably 2 – 4 times a week to remove danders that causes asthma triggers.

With these preventive measures, you and your family can enjoy having pets without the worry of asthma and other allergic reactions.

Overfeeding our pets is actually a form of animal cruelty or abuse. The definition of animal cruelty to us is beating or underfeeding, or putting them in cages and not taking care of them but overfeeding is also a form of animal cruelty. Overfeeding leads to health problems such as diabetes, heart illness, obesity, arthritis and more. It is advisable that we follow the standard or the proper amount of food that we give to our pets.

Pets have insatiable appetite, they will keep on munching as long as we keep on giving, they wont stop unless we intervene. It is hard to ignore our pets asking for more food or asking a piece of whatever it is that we are eating so we decide to toss a slice of pizza, a piece of meat or bread. We’re thinking they deserve it for the love, affection and loyalty they have on us. It is right but there is a harmful side to it. We overfeed them and we put them prone to diseases.

So how much food you should give to your pets? Here are some helpful guidelines.

Dogs:
10 lbs. or less- 1/3 – 1 cup of dog food (Dry, Wet or Mixed)
10-25 lbs.- 1-2 ¼ cups
25-50 lbs. -2 ¼ – 3 ¾ cups
50-75 lbs. – 3 ¾ – 5 cups
Over 75 lbs. – 5-8 cups

Cats:
The typical 10 lb. cat should be fed 4-6 ounces of canned food or 1/4 – 1/3 cup dry food daily.

Fish:
About a pinch of food is enough to feed at least 5 fish.

The best thing to do is to ask your vets for the proper diet of your pets. Some dog and cat breeds may require different feeding needs. Read properly the label of your dog or cat foods. Putting too much food in the aquarium may contaminate the water and may poison your fishes so always be careful in the amount of food you put in your aquarium.

Loving your pets does not end in buying them gifts and accessories. Not overfeeding them is actually the best gift you can ever give them. Another gift, more for you than them, is to use a godaddy coupon 2011 to obtain a domain for your pet. Put up a site with images and more for yourself and your family to enjoy.

You may not realize it, but pets are a lot more vulnerable to bad weather incidents and being picked up as an assumed stray than you’d imagine. There are several things you can do to keep your pets safe, out of trouble, and happy at home!

Make sure your pet enclosures are secure and big enough. A pet likes nothing more than free space to move around and being closed up too tightly can be unhealthy. Also, you wouldn’t want a pet that needs to be closed up exploiting a weakness in the enclosure!

If it’s storming outside, don’t forget to bring your pets inside. Some pets may not understand weather the same way that humans do, so it can be quite a scare for them.

Make sure your pets are tagged or collared if they are going to be out of the house. You wouldn’t want someone picking up your pet to call their own. They also run the risk of being taken to the pound if they’re not collared and/or tagged.

Keep your pets healthy! This is a big one. Keeping your pet healthy is one of the most important things you can do. Make sure you keep your pets free of parasites and common diseases. Be positive that your pets’ vaccinations are up-to-date.

Following these simple steps can assure that your pet remains safe and out of harms way. Keeping a safe, healthy environment is very important for your pet!
